Meena Balasubramanian, a Professor of Medical Genetics, is an academic clinical geneticist based in Sheffield, specialising in genomic medicine for paediatric rare diseases. Her research focuses on developing novel genomic approaches and therapeutic targets, including AAV9 gene therapies for conditions such as Osteogenesis Imperfecta and rare neurodevelopmental disorders.

The Balasubramanian Lab leads translational research on collagen and RNDD genes, publishing major clinical cohorts and authoritative reviews for several disorders.

Meena is the Clinical Director of Research at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Academic Vice President of the Clinical Genetics Society. She also serves on advisory boards for the Brittle Bone Society and the HNRNP Family Foundation and chairs Sheffield Children’s Early Phase Safety Review Committee.
